The 10th Anniversary season of Heart of America choir competitions concluded on March 29, in Orlando, Florida. Eight groups performed in prelims at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace in the Disney Springs Resort, with seven groups advancing to finals.
Select Sound from Carroll HS (IN) kicked off the Treble Show Choir Division with a Tomb-Raider-themed performance, following Lara Croft’s journey to unlock the Heart of Takara. Vortex from Ankeny Centennial HS (IA) kept up the energy with a strong rendition of their program, “The Vault.”
The Sound of Fairfield from Fairfield Preparatory HS (AL) delivered beautiful vocals for the Concert Choir Division.
The Open Show Choir Division was up next, featuring Syndicated Sound from Tarpon Springs HS (FL) and their program, “Greetings from Florida.”
Findlay First Edition from Findlay HS (OH) opened the final category of the prelims, the Championship Show Choir Division. Then, The Ambassadors from Prairie HS (IA) delivered a beautiful performance.
Magic from Carroll HS (IN) brought us into the world of Oz in their program, “The Tin Man.” Last but not least, Spectrum from Ankeny Centennial HS (IA) put on a strong performance with “My Day Will Come,” rounding out an incredible day of prelims. Finalists, in order, included Select Sound (Carroll HS), Vortex (Ankeny Centennial HS), The Ambassadors (Prairie HS), Syndicated Sound (Tarpon Springs HS), Findlay First Edition (Findlay HS), Magic (Carroll HS) and Spectrum (Ankeny Centennial HS). Each group put their all into their finals performance, bringing a close to a wonderful season. At the end of the night, Magic from Carroll HS (IN) and Vortex from Ankeny Centennial HS (IA) were named Grand Champions in their divisions. A complete list of the awards, including highest achievement in prelims, can be found here. Emily Potter from Carroll HS (IN) was awarded as the Showchoir Camps of America Outstanding Soloist.
