The 10th Anniversary season of Heart of America choir competitions continued on March 22, in Anaheim, California. Seventeen groups performed in prelims in the Disneyland Hotel, with six groups advancing to finals.

The night before competition day, groups celebrated a decade of HOA with dinner, dancing and live entertainment. The excitement carried into the next morning, with the first group opening the competition bright and early.

Starlet Express from Brea Olinda Jr. HS (CA) kicked off the JR/Middle Treble Show Choir Division with their program, “Girl Power.” Showstoppers from Oak MS (CA) performed a spoof of real estate reality TV shows.

The Open Show Choir Division began with a performance by Summer Breeze from Palm Desert HS (CA). Their program celebrated their state’s famous desert music festival, Coachella. The Music Machine from Bonita Vista HS (CA) presented a piece centered around the concept of time. Finishing up the division was Tiffany’s from Brea Olinda HS (CA), featuring favorite characters from the movie, “Inside Out.”

The Debtones from Center Grove HS (IN) opened the Treble Show Choir Division with a bang. Their show was “Dolly”-themed, featuring “Hello Dolly” and Dolly Parton favorites. Sound from Fishers HS (IN) followed with their empowering program, “Real Housewives of History.”

Tiger Mystique from Broken Arrow HS (OK) turned the stage into a life-sized chessboard during their performance of “The Queen of Hearts.” Then, Spellbound from Brea Olinda HS (CA) took us to dark and mysterious forest in “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.” The morning wrapped up with “Workin’ for a Livin'” by Sound Unlimited from Bonita Vista HS (CA).

After lunch, it was time for the Jr/Middle Mixed Show Choir Division. Show Choir Express from Brea Olinda HS (CA) presented their sugary-sweet program, “Candyland.” The next ensemble, Showcase from Oak MS (CA), took us on a journey to build a colony in space.

The Championship Show Choir Division was up next. First up, CG Sound System from Center Grove HS (IN) featured high energy, acrobatics, French repertoire and themes of love and freedom. Electrum from Fishers HS (IN) kept the energy alive with “The Electrum Show,” whirling between popular genres of TV entertainment.

In “Three Gifts,” Tiger Rhythm from Broken Arrow HS (OK) wove a three-part tale of brotherhood, hardship and hope. Finally, Masquerade from Brea Olinda HS (CA) showcased their engaging program, “The Giver.”

CG Singers from Center Grove HS (IN) gave a strong performance in the Concert Choir Division, rounding out an incredible day of prelims. You can watch the replay of prelims performances here.

Finalists, in order, included Tiger Mystique (Broken Arrow HS), Sound (Fishers HS), The Debtones (Center Grove HS), Electrum (Fishers HS), Tiger Rhythm (Broken Arrow HS) and CG Sound System (Center Grove HS). Each group put their all into their finals performance, providing an incredible show for the enthusiastic crowd. At the end of the night, The Debtones and CG Sound System from Center Grove HS (IN) were named Grand Champions in their divisions. A complete list of the awards, including highest achievement in prelims, can be found here. Evangeline King from Broken Arrow HS (OK) was awarded as the Showchoir Camps of America Oustanding Soloist.
